Sony's much anticipated Little Big Planet will likely be everything it's hyped to be and more. With a potential push backed release date one can only hope the company is further enhancing this incredibly innovative title. Check the screen shot! It's unlike anything you've seen before.
The game is so different then anything anyone has seen that it is listed on the PS3 forum under it's own category of "Awesomecool". The physics based game play allows for players to minipulate their players "sackboys" as well as their environment. Players can create small level objects or vast worlds only hampered by a players imagination.
The PSN network will also allow players to share their environments and play with others on the network and place their "world" on the map so others can chill in their playground while they are offline.
According to reports players will also be given objectives that will result in gaining new objects to add to their perosnal playgrounds. A demo was rumored for late 2007 but that didn't happen. It's now geared for early in 2008 but no official information is released regarding that and the full version release date seems to be up in the air as well. Originally it was slated for April of 2008 but some are suggesting it could be pushed back to as late as september and Amazon has pre-orders with Sept. ship dates, so time will only tell.
Either way this game is SURE to be worth the wait.
As an aspriing journalist i'm awe-struck by alot of the stories i see in print media. They are well written, they are well researched and most of all they touch on necessary topics and bring necessary information to the masses. Most journalists work hard to ensure that the ethics and integrity of print media remain intact but there are a select few who are seriously destroying journalism as many know and love it and in the process ruining the reputation of millions of people who are or aspire to be journalists.
I love the web and turn to it often for information and insight, alot of what I blog about has come from my online browsing but in order to find viable information you have to sift through 10 pounds of pure insanity to find applicable information and that plain sucks.
The internet has given rise to great things. Really it is one of the greatest inventions of all time and has had a serious hand in the progression of society as a whole, but in many ways it's still an infant and regularly spits up on itself. The internet can basically be described as pure anarchy within a world of strict rules and procedures. All the rules of ethics and journalistic integrity go out the window for some when they take their art (or lack there of) to the internet. There is a whole process to publishing work and the entire process is in place to ensure all information is correct and what is about to be published is acceptable and in good taste.
For the internet? well those rules go out the window as anyone with 3rd grade writing skills and an internet connection can find themselves writing on the net in about 11 seconds.
I can't decide if the internet will be the savior or the downfall of journalism and writing... it's probably the latter.
It's hard to admit sometimes, but I truly 100% am a phone junkie.
The week that the sidekick slide hit the market I had to have it, and had it I did. Unfortunately I was hit with the not so nice "shut off randomly" feature that was well publicized. Well it wasn't a random issue or random boot down as some people reported. Rather you had to open and close the slide with great, great easy. Anything more then the most ginger sliding would send the device into a tailspin, shutting it off and deleting everything for about 5-15 minutes depending on the day. Honestly it wouldn’t have bothered me much as I was pretty good at being very careful with the sliding action. The major issue was that once everything came back it was "new again" so you had to go through the task of "reading" 100 texts and 40 emails you'd already seen. Case in point I did the trade for the sidekick LX.
I love my LX. I truly do. It's a great device and does everything I have asked it to do, but as every addict knows there is always something bigger and brighter to chase. Some people are addicted to shoes or general shopping but for me it's the cell phone.
The Boy (who will be mentioned periodically I’m sure since he's the one who turned me onto this tech. infused lifestyle) got the Blackberry Curve for Christmas (Courtesy of his loving and devoted girlfriend *me!*) and that got me dreaming of new phones. I have no plans on buying any new device for a very long time (a year or so)
I think the addiction was renewed during the shopping experience when my faithful little sidekick was only a month or so old. I looked at tons of phones. There were 4 front runners when I picked his device.
The Pearl, The 8800, The Curve and finally the T-mobile wing.
The pearl is pretty (for girls) but defiantly not masculine enough for most guys and really not user friendly for anyone with less then petite hands. I also found their "text recognition" feature somewhat lacking.
The 8800 defiantly didn't look like it was worth what they were charging for it. Plus it was a bit to corporate and plastic. It just didn't have enough style for our tastes.
The T-mobile Wing is an awesome device. I loved the size and look of it, but in the end I couldn’t picture my button down shirt wearing, subway riding boyfriend sliding it open to text. It wasn't right for him.
I eventually went with The Curve because it's just all around gorgeous. Sleek and stylish but really functional. The full QWERTY keypad was defiantly a plus for someone who doesn't want to fuss with text recognition of phones without the full keypad.
I'm completely enamored with the idea of a touch screen phone and I am sure I’ll eventually get it. Maybe mobile will think about a sidekick with a touch screen. Oh I’m all a tingle at the thought.
I often find myself watching late night television. As a
freelancer (Contrary to my mother and others that isn't code word for unemployed)
I tend to make my own schedule and I find a great deal to write about on late
night television.
So as I flipped around the channel I saw a commercial for
the Apple Air (cute little name isn't it?), okay I saw it about 9 times before I
even realized what the hell the damn thing was and Apple's less then straight forward
marketing strategies are to blame for it.
Basically the Apple Air is the thinnest notebook to ever grace your eyes. It is silver.....it is pretty. It is...... anorexic!?
The air is a whopping .16 to .76 inches thick. The barely there notebook
has an 80 GB hard drive and one USB port. It seems all good but in order to get
it that thin apple has left out some pretty essential pieces of hardware and I
can't help but question just how wondrous this thing is going to be.
First off it has no Ethernet port. You have to rely on the built-in wireless connection or bluetooth. I've always found wireless connections to be far from desirable and even though I have love for notebooks I’ve always disliked WIFI and don't necessarily appreciate that it's your only option.
Secondly there is no optical drive and only one USB port. So if you’re at a desk and you want to use a USB mouse you can do so, but don't think your going to rock a CD/DVD/Software program that requires the CD at the same time. Actually you need to pick one of anything that you'd like to work on the USB port unless you feel the urge to go with a hub which obviously completely removes portability.
All in all I think it falls short. You can go for a small portable laptop for
MUCH cheaper then this one's 1800 dollar price tag and still get things like an
Ethernet, optical drive and 2 USB ports. So it won’t be painfully thin...
that's all.. I'd much rather all my needs met then to have something really sleek that falls just a touch short.
While I’m normally not one to stand in Nintendo's corner all that often but I have to say they have one small yet powerful device in their repertoire that I really enjoy and their marketing strategy has been genius for what it is.
The Nintendo DS lite, the newest in a long line of Nintendo hand held consoles deliver something very different. The stylus is defiantly a nice addition to the gaming world and their titles are whimsical and defiantly corner the "not so serious girl gamer" market.
At first I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the dual screen device, but I had to admit defeat and tell everyone that I love it. Zelda and I have become very good pals. We spend hours together fighting fearsome yet cute creatures and unlocking the mysterious of a ghost ship. In real life I’d sooner blow myself up then to sail off to uncharted islands. See I’m a city girl at heart, but in Zelda I’ve become quite the adventurer.
Cooking Mama is another title that appeals almost entirely to the female demographic. Now in reality I’m a microwave and oatmeal type. I can boil water, I can watch a microwave timer tick down as my preservative infused meal cooks itself and I can call the lovely Chinese lady to deliver my food to provided address, that's as far as my cooking skills go. But in Cooking Mama I’ve managed to create some pretty interesting Japanese inspired entrees (who knew!?)
The Dog and Vet games are another couple of titles that are interesting and pretty new to the video gaming world. You see I’m not a big fan of animals, don’t get me wrong I LOVE dogs and cats and other furry little creatures, I just prefer to keep a safe distance. I have a dog, she's adorable and I’ll pet and cuddle her all I want, but that's because we've come to a personal understanding... (Don’t bite me, and your next stop won't be the pound!). A little hands-on time with furry companions from the safety of a gaming device works perfect for me.
But by far my most favorite title of all is Life Signs. Such an amazing concept and really it could not possible by executed on any other device quite like it is on the DS. Life Signs revolves around you performing surgery on very sick and unsuspecting patients. I've killed a few hundred or so, but who's really counting, but all in all the game is fun, innovative and fast paced. If you knew me you'd know you wouldn't actually want me operating on you. No really, I was not gifted with the steady hands or a very good sense of left or right... so this works for me.
In short, I’m a big fan of the DS...

2008 is predicted to be the year of the PS3. Microsoft and
Nintendo have had their fun and appear to be dwindling slowly but surely after
data suggests blu-ray is the new wave of the future (the Blu-ray player
included with the PS3 is one of the best on the market).
So Sony has taken a hint from the likes of Apple and is planning to produce their console in different colors. Currently on the market in the US is a black console only but recent buzz suggests a ceramic white PS3 console will be marketed soon enough in the U.S. (already available in Japan) and red and silver are rumored to shortly follow.
While aesthetically different it's no surprise that the hardware will be all the same and it's likely only the 40g model will be offered in white.
No release date is suggested in anything I’ve seen but a move towards white and other colors may give the ps3 even more momentum for the upcoming year.
